History of the vine: A red wine made from SUSUMANIELLO grapes, native to southern Puglia. Tauro, based in Alberobello, revives this ancient Apulian grape variety. Susumaniello, whose name derives from the dialect term "somarello" or "asino" (donkey) due to its high productivity in the early years of the plant's life, has historical roots in the Salento region. Although it risked extinction, in recent decades it has experienced a resurgence thanks to the efforts of passionate winemakers and research institutes, who have recognized its unique winemaking potential.
